Does player count affect FiveM server ranking?

Not directly. The list is ordered by upvotePower alone. Player count matters indirectly and powerfully: more players means more people in a position to upvote you, and a busy-looking capacity bar is what converts a listing view into a join.

The direct answer

No. Two servers with identical upvotePower appear in the same place whether one has four hundred players and the other has four. The ordering does not read player count.

The indirect answer, which matters more

Player count feeds ranking through two separate routes.

More players means more potential voters. Upvotes come from people. A server with a real community has a pool of people who might vote; an empty one does not. This is why organic growth compounds and why the first slice of visibility is the hardest to get.

Capacity reads as social proof. When a player scans the list, the fraction next to each entry is a quality signal whether or not it deserves to be. 52/64 says something is happening here. 52/1024 says this place is dead. The same fifty-two people produce opposite impressions.

The slot-count mistake

Owners routinely set slot counts for the server they hope to have. A 512-slot configuration on a server that peaks at sixty makes every screenshot look like a failure, all day, to everyone browsing.

Size slots slightly above your realistic peak. You can raise them later, and raising them is a pleasant problem. Running permanently at eight percent capacity is not.

Where "fake players" fit

Inflated player counts address the conversion signal, not the ranking — they change what browsers see, not where you appear. That distinction is worth being clear about, because the two are frequently sold as if they were the same product.

What to actually track

Watch both numbers together. Rising upvotePower with flat players means you are buying visibility that is not converting — look at your name, tags and capacity. Rising players with flat upvotePower means you have an engaged community that has not been asked to vote. Ask them.
