How do FiveM upvotes work?

An upvote is a single endorsement a player gives a server from the FiveM client. The server list does not count raw votes — it tracks upvotePower, a decaying score built from how many votes a server holds and how recently they arrived. Higher upvotePower means a higher position in the discovery grid, which is the only place most players ever look.

What an upvote actually is

Inside the FiveM client, every server entry has an upvote control. A player can spend an upvote on a server, and that endorsement is recorded against the server's Cfx.re identity — not against the IP, not against the hostname, which is why a server keeps its standing through a rename or a host migration.

Why "upvotePower" is the number that matters

The public list is not sorted by a simple vote tally. Each server carries a value the API exposes as upvotePower, and that is what orders the grid. Two things feed it:

  • Volume — how many upvotes the server holds in total.
  • Recency — votes lose weight as they age, so a server that stopped gaining votes six months ago slides down even though its lifetime total never dropped.

That decay is the single most misunderstood part of the system. Server owners often assume a strong month buys them a permanent position. It does not. It buys a position that erodes unless something keeps feeding it.

What that means in practice

A server sitting at the bottom of the list is not there because players dislike it. It is there because nobody has discovered it yet, and nobody discovers it because it is at the bottom. That loop is the real problem a new server faces, and it does not resolve on its own.

Breaking it takes upvotePower arriving steadily rather than in one burst. A steady curve looks like organic growth and holds its position; a single spike decays back to where it started within weeks.

Checking your own number

Every server page on this site shows the live upvotePower we read from the Cfx.re list, alongside player counts and capacity. Find your server, note the figure, then look at the servers immediately above you — the gap between you and them is the concrete target, not a vague ambition.
