Do FiveM upvotes reset or expire?
They do not reset on a schedule, but they lose weight as they age. The effect looks like expiry from the outside: a server that stops gaining upvotes slides down the list even though its lifetime total never decreases.
No scheduled reset
There is no monthly wipe, no seasonal reset, no date on which everyone returns to zero. Servers that appear to have been reset have almost always simply been overtaken.
What actually happens
upvotePower weights recent votes more heavily than old ones. As votes age, their contribution shrinks. The visible result:
- A server that gains nothing new drifts downward continuously.
- Its lifetime vote count is unchanged the entire time.
- Servers with smaller totals but active inflow pass it.
From the owner's chair this is indistinguishable from expiry, which is why the misunderstanding is so persistent.
Why it is built this way
A pure lifetime total would freeze the list permanently. Servers that were popular in 2021 would sit at the top forever regardless of whether they still ran, and nothing new could ever surface. Recency weighting keeps the list reflecting what is currently active.
What it means for you
Position is rented, not bought. Every server at the top is either generating continuous organic votes from a real community or maintaining the position deliberately. There is no third category.
One campaign is a loan. It buys weeks, and then the decay works through. That can be exactly what you want — covering a launch, a wipe, an event — but it is not a permanent baseline.
Organic inflow is the only durable version. Players who genuinely enjoy your server and are occasionally reminded to vote produce the one kind of upvotePower that sustains itself.
Watching the decay
Your server's page here records upvotePower at every snapshot. Over a few weeks the shape is clear: flat inflow produces a slow decline, and that decline is the maintenance cost of wherever you currently sit.
