How do I keep FiveM players coming back?
Make the first session work, give people a reason to return on a specific evening, and keep the server consistent enough that players know what they are coming back to. Retention is where promotion spend either compounds or evaporates.
The first session decides most of it
A player's first fifteen minutes predict whether you ever see them again better than anything else you control.
- Connect to doing something, without needing to ask.
- No rulebook wall before anything happens.
- Someone visible — staff or just other players nearby.
- No crash, no thirty-second stutter, no immediate confusion about where to go.
Have someone who has never played on your server try it while you watch. It is uncomfortable and it is the most useful hour you will spend.
A reason for a specific evening
"Come back whenever" produces nobody. A scheduled thing on a known evening produces a turnout:
- A weekly event at a fixed time.
- A storyline that continues.
- A wipe or season with a date attached.
The specificity is the active ingredient, not the content.
Consistency
Players return to something they can predict. Servers that change format every few weeks never build a habit, because there is nothing stable to be habitual about.
The same applies to rules and to staff behaviour. Predictable is not boring — it is what makes a place feel like somewhere rather than a lobby.
Relationships
People come back for other people far more often than for features. Anything that helps players know each other — gangs, businesses, recurring jobs, a Discord where conversation happens — does more for retention than any script.
Performance, again
It belongs in every list. A player who enjoys your server but stutters through every session will drift away without ever telling you why.
Closing the loop
Players who keep coming back are the ones who vote, which feeds upvotePower, which restores visibility, which brings more arrivals. Retention is what turns bought visibility into something that sustains itself instead of decaying.
Your server's page here tracks players and upvotePower together at every snapshot, which is the quickest way to see whether that loop has started closing.
