How do I get more players on my FiveM server?

Three separate problems, in this order: be visible at all, convert the people who see you, and keep the ones who join. Most owners only work on the first and wonder why the numbers do not stick.

Visibility

Nobody can join a server they never saw. Position on the Cfx.re list is decided by upvotePower, and below a certain point the effective traffic is zero — not low, zero, because players do not scroll that far.

This is the part that responds to promotion, and the part that responds to nothing else.

Conversion

Once a player sees your entry, roughly three things decide whether they click:

  • The name. Readable in the first forty characters, or wasted.
  • The capacity signal. 38/64 reads as busy; 38/512 reads as dead. Same players.
  • The tags. They tell a player whether this is the kind of server they are looking for. Wrong tags win a click and lose the player immediately after.

Retention

The first thirty minutes decide whether you ever see that player again:

  • Queue and load times. A long queue to an empty server is the worst combination, and it is common.
  • Something to do immediately. If a new arrival has to read a forty-page rulebook before anything happens, most will not.
  • Someone visible. Staff presence, or just other players nearby, in the first few minutes.

Why the order matters

Spending on visibility while retention is broken means paying to fill a bucket with a hole in it. Working on retention while invisible means polishing something nobody sees.

Diagnose honestly: if you get arrivals but they do not return, that is retention, and promotion will not fix it. If you get no arrivals at all, that is visibility, and nothing but visibility work will fix it.

Measuring instead of guessing

Track your own player count and upvotePower over time — your server's page here does that automatically, across every snapshot we take. Movement in one without the other tells you which of the three problems you actually have.
