Roleplay (RP)

Also called FiveM RP, serious RP

The dominant FiveM genre, where players act consistently as a character inside an in-world economy and rule set.

Roleplay is what most FiveM servers are. Players take a character, keep it consistent, and interact inside rules that make the world coherent: jobs that pay, police that respond, consequences that persist across sessions.

The genre splits by strictness. Serious RP enforces character consistency hard, usually whitelisted, often with written applications. Semi-serious keeps the framework but tolerates more chaos. Casual or freeroam servers keep the jobs and vehicles and drop the obligation to stay in character.

That split matters for discovery because players filter on it and bounce fast when a server is mislabelled. A server tagged serious that plays casual gets one-minute sessions and bad word of mouth — worse than being honestly tagged casual and getting the players who wanted it.

The rule vocabulary around RP — metagaming, powergaming, RDM, VDM, new life rule — exists to make these expectations enforceable rather than argued about case by case.
