Server list & ranking

Tags

Also called sets tags, server tags

Keywords set in server.cfg that place your server into the filters players browse by.

Tags are declared with sets tags "roleplay, economy, drift" and feed the filters in the FiveM server browser. A player who filters by a tag sees a much shorter list than the full one, which makes tags one of the few genuinely free visibility levers.

The temptation is to list everything. That is counterproductive: appearing in a filter you do not actually serve produces a connect, a thirty-second look, and a disconnect, which is worse for you than not appearing at all. Tags should describe what a player will find, not what you hope to attract.

Three to six honest tags outperform fifteen aspirational ones. Pick the framework, the genre, the region if it defines you, and the one or two mechanics you are genuinely known for.

Tags also shape how aggregators and directories — including the hub pages on this site — group servers, so they have a reach beyond the in-client browser.
