server.cfg
Also called server config
The main configuration file that tells a FiveM server what to load, what to call itself and how to behave.
server.cfg is read at startup. It sets the endpoints the server binds to, the licence key, the hostname shown on the list, the tags and locale, the max player count, and — in ensure / start lines — every resource the server loads.
Order matters. A framework must start before the resources that depend on it, which is why most configs group ensure lines by layer: framework, then shared libraries, then gameplay resources. A resource that errors on start usually takes its dependents with it, and the console output is the first place to look.
Several list-facing values live here and are routinely neglected: sv_hostname, sv_projectName, sv_projectDesc, sets tags and sets locale. These are what a player sees before they ever connect, and they are free to improve.
Keep the file in version control. The most common cause of an unexplained outage is an edit nobody remembers making.
