Resource

Also called FiveM script, FiveM resource

A self-contained folder of scripts, assets and a manifest that the server loads to add functionality.

A resource is the unit of code on a FiveM server. It is a directory containing an fxmanifest.lua plus whatever client scripts, server scripts, UI files and streamed assets it needs. The server loads it with ensure <name> in server.cfg.

Resources can depend on each other, declared in the manifest. In practice most servers run a framework resource, a shared library such as ox_lib, and then dozens of gameplay resources on top. The dependency chain is the usual source of start-up failures: one missing or renamed resource takes everything below it with it.

Resources are also the main performance variable. Each one costs CPU time per tick, and a handful of badly written ones will wreck a server that is otherwise generously provisioned. resmon in the client console shows the cost per resource and is the fastest way to find the culprit.

Most paid resources are distributed through Tebex and many are escrow-protected, which limits what you can edit.
