ESX

Also called es_extended, ESX Legacy

One of the two dominant FiveM roleplay frameworks, providing jobs, inventory, money and a shared API for scripts.

ESX (the es_extended resource) is a roleplay framework: it supplies the player model, jobs, money, inventory and a shared API that hundreds of third-party scripts expect to find. ESX Legacy is the maintained line; the older 1.1 and 1.2 branches are widely copied and widely broken.

Its appeal is the ecosystem. Because so many scripts are written against ESX exports, a server can assemble a working economy in an afternoon. Its cost is the same thing: the API carries a lot of history, and scripts written against different ESX eras do not always agree about what an identifier or a money type is.

Most ESX servers no longer use the bundled inventory and instead run ox_inventory, which means they are running an ESX core with a different inventory contract bolted on. That is normal, and it is also the most common source of "the script works on the demo server but not mine".

ESX and QBCore are not compatible, though bridge resources exist that translate one API to the other with varying success.
