What is the Cfx.re discovery grid?

Where players actually come from

Some servers are found through Discord, streamers or word of mouth. Most are found in the client's own browser: a grid of cards, each showing a hostname, a player fraction, some tags, and ordered by upvotePower.

That grid is the discovery channel. Everything else is a supplement to it.

The shape of the attention curve

Attention on any ranked list collapses fast, and this one is no exception. The first screen gets the overwhelming majority of clicks. The second gets a fraction of that. Past a few screens, the practical traffic is not small — it is zero, because players simply stop scrolling and pick something from what they have already seen.

This is why "we are listed" and "we are discoverable" are entirely different statements.

What a card has to do

In the moment a player scans the grid, your entry has to communicate three things before they move on:

• What this is — from the readable part of your hostname, which is shorter than you think.
• Whether it is alive — from the player fraction, read as a proportion rather than an absolute.
• Whether it is their kind of server — from the tags.

Decoration that pushes any of those out of view costs you players.

Why this shapes the whole promotion market

Because position is bought with upvotePower and nothing else, and because position is effectively the only route to being seen, a market for upvotePower is the inevitable result. Whether that is healthy is a fair question; that it is how the system works is not really in dispute.

Working with it

Get visible enough to be scanned. Make the card do its job in the two seconds it gets. Then make the first thirty minutes in-game good enough that the player comes back without needing the grid again.
