What do FiveM server tags do?
Tags drive filtered browsing in the client and category pages on every tracker, so they decide which searches you appear in. Tagging things you do not actually run wins clicks and loses players, and it is the single easiest listing mistake to fix.
Where tags are actually used
Tags are set in your server config and published to the list. They are consumed in three places:
- Filtered browsing in the FiveM client, where a player narrows to roleplay, racing, drift and so on.
- Category pages on trackers — every tag on this site has its own live leaderboard, built automatically from the servers that publish it.
- Search, because tag text is indexable and is one of the few descriptive signals attached to your listing.
Why accuracy pays
Tagging "economy" on a server with no economy gets you into economy searches. A player arrives expecting a closed economy, finds starter cash and no player businesses, and leaves. You spent an impression to produce a disappointed player.
The reverse is more common than owners realise: servers that genuinely run a feature and never tagged it, so they never appear in the searches they would win.
Practical guidance
- Five to ten real tags. Enough to be findable, few enough to mean something.
- Framework tags matter. ESX, QBCore — players filter on these deliberately.
- Mode tags matter. Roleplay, serious, drift, racing, freeroam.
- Feature tags — jobs, gangs, drugs, police, whitelist — only if you actually run them properly.
- Skip the filler. "Fun", "best", "new", "24/7" are not filters anybody uses.
Checking what you publish
Look at your own server's page on this site. The tags shown are exactly what your config publishes, not what you intended to publish. Owners are regularly surprised — stale tags from a previous server direction are extremely common.
Tags and ranking
Tags do not affect upvotePower or list position. They affect which filtered views you appear in, and which tracker category pages link to you. That is a real traffic source, and it is free.
