FiveM

Also called Cfx.re FiveM, GTA 5 multiplayer mod

The multiplayer modification for Grand Theft Auto V that lets anyone run a custom server with their own scripts, vehicles and rules.

FiveM is a modification framework for Grand Theft Auto V, maintained by Cfx.re. It replaces Rockstar's own online component with a client that connects to community-run servers, each able to load its own scripts, vehicles, maps and game rules. Players need a legitimate copy of GTA V; everything else comes from the server at connect time.

The important consequence for anyone running a server is that FiveM is a platform, not a game mode. A server is defined entirely by what you load into it: a framework, a set of resources, and the configuration in server.cfg. Two servers can share every file and still feel completely different because of how they are configured and moderated.

FiveM servers are discovered through the in-client server list, which is where ranking, upvote power and visibility start to matter. A server that nobody can find is functionally offline, which is why discovery is a separate problem from building the server itself.

RedM is the same project applied to Red Dead Redemption 2 and shares most of the underlying tooling.
